i used to think organic food is good for us, unconditionally: (1) in the case of crops, it is a way of farming without using chemical pesticides and fertilisers, (2) for animal products, organic husbandry does not promote the routine use of drugs and antibiotics and (3) the food is therefore healthier for you and also more nutritious.
but apparently, as with so many other things, we don't have clear cut scientific answers telling us that all of the above is true. however, based on just one article i've read, and my belief that we do need to do much more for the environment, i think it might be a workable solution.
the only sticking point i have with it now, is the question of whether this is a method that will work to produce enough food for the billions on our planet. if it doesn't, then surely it is just another niggling thing that works only for the developed world? as strong as my belief in protecting the environment is, this belief is essentially anthropocentric and the last thing i would agree to is a solution that would end up starving millions while allowing people like me to enjoy a clean little part of the planet.
so i'm hoping to find the evidence to get rid of this last niggling doubt soon...
