A walk in the park
It was easy to raise HKD5,600.
I took advantage of a captive audience (my colleagues who were sitting at their desks) and told them I wanted them to pay money to a charity (the Hong Kong Alzheimer's Disease and Brain Failure Association) and that I would do a hike. They all succumbed without much protest, apart from the partners, who suggested the hike was too short (they ended up paying anyway). I had much fun noticing that principle of social interaction, conformity, at work - once one partner set the official 'partner rate',
all the partners pledged the same amount, and likewise for associates.
Then it was a matter of turning up at the site of the walk on a bright and sunny Sunday. The Peak was swarming with weepy teenagers screaming in high pitched voices the names of their favourite starlets - the
Cookies. At the registration desk I received a large umbrella and a yellow cap. We walked around the Peak admiring the spectacular view. We were as high as the top of the
IFC 2 (the building Angelina Jolie jumps out of in
Tombraider 2).
Simple, really.
