I am proud to reveal a sample of my informal and completely unscientific poll of what each gender wants from each other in Hong Kong (this is
not the reason why I am still in the office, by the way). It appears that there is a serious divide of opinion but perhaps a properly conducted poll will yield different results. The non-Hong Kong nationals are all long-term residents of Hong Kong (i.e. have lived in Hong Kong for the past 2 years or longer) so I have included them in the poll result.
- What Hong Kong men want -
"To have my mother cook me enough food for a whole week and bring it to my flat. Oh, and do the ironing. " - IT consultant (30, Chinese, educated in Hong Kong and New Zealand, part of couple)
"To have my daughter come home at 11pm sharp. I mean, if I had a daughter, that is." - Director, investment bank (33, Korean, educated in the States, single)
"To have my wife stay at home and look after the children. Most of the time. She can work a little bit if she wants to." - Lawyer (34, British, educated in the U.K., part of couple)

"To have a romantic dinner date, where the
man makes the reservation for a change." - Lawyer (30, Chinese, educated in Hong Kong and the U.K., single)
"To work." - Dentist (28, Chinese, educated in Hong Kong and Australia, single)
"To work, after marriage
and after having children." - Lawyer (36, British, educated in the U.K., part of couple)
"To enjoy earning more than my husband. It would be nice if he did more with the children." - Marketing manager (32, British, educated in the U.K., married)
